Finger technique

  • Develop and play with appropriate finger shape
  • Coordinate finger movement

Without instrument:

  • Show learners how to relax their arms, shoulders and hands by their sides and then bring hands and arms into playing position.

Be aware of learners’ individual physical characteristics and make adaptations as appropriate.

With instrument:

  • Ask learners to play simple finger patterns and tunes (away from written notation) in front of a mirror, checking finger positions.

Check points of contact for support and balance for individual instruments.
