Regularly ask learners to use the audio recorder function to record vocals/instruments and to use the red record button to capture musical ideas.
After recording MIDI sounds, help quantise notes in a musical way, using triplet and swing timings. Ask learners to input and manipulate complex MIDI data (such as time signatures other than 4/4, rhythms using 1/16 and 1/32 notes, triplets and swing timings).
When recording live vocals or instruments, ask learners to explore the audio recorder settings to add pre-set instrument-specific FX (such as Sweet Chorus for Vocals, or Dark Room for Acoustic Guitar) and then further manipulate the parameters to achieve their musical intention.
When recording live audio, the teacher should encourage promoting a balanced distance between the microphone (on the iPad) and the performer. Here ‘balanced’ is used to mean not too close and not too far.
By using the screen record function on the iPad, learners can capture any performances they create, whether it’s using the Live Loops function or virtual instruments feature.
