Practice can be enhanced by effective sharing of information between teacher, learner and parents/carers via online systems or traditional practice diaries or notebooks. Such systems can provide a means of structuring practice, setting achievable and realistic targets and tracking both overall progression and the quality of practice. When teaching children, they can also provide a valuable means of communication between parents/carers and teachers, encouraging the ongoing involvement of parents/carers in their child’s learning. In addition to recording what should be practised, communicating how to practise will help parents to understand the pedagogical approach and encourage learners to use their practice time effectively.
