Get Started with the Clarion Accessible Instrument
Get familiar with the Clarion accessible instrument, the first-ever digital instrument assessed by ABRSM. It can be played with any part of the body including eye movement, and by students who don’t read music. You can download a free version on your iPad and Windows devices and start exploring.
Designed to promote musical inclusion, the Clarion is expressive like traditional instruments but also highly accessible. It can be customised to suit a musician’s abilities and access needs – and affords them the same opportunity for musical progression. The Clarion is the instrument of choice for thousands of disabled musicians, including National Open Youth Orchestra and Open Orchestras players. It has recently become available for all to download and try, and is part of the DfE Musical Instruments, Equipment and Technology Framework.
In this training, the Open Up Music team will take you through essentials and share practical ideas to start using the Clarion in your sessions, including:
- Setting up and positioning the Clarion for different players
- Playing notes expressively
- Exploring Clarion patterns
There will be practical music making activities, so to make the most of the training, we recommend you bring along a Clarion with features and content unlocked (to do this, sign in to the Clarion app with your Clarion Education or Open Orchestras sign in details).
