London Conducting Weekend
Join us for a weekend of practical conducting training, at both Initial and Intermediate levels including podium time for all participants. Bursaries are available for anyone who works with young musicians or any leader who is aged 18 – 25.
Led by Amy Bebbington, Jonathan Schranz and James Davey
The Initial level is designed for those who are either new to leading choirs, or have conducted for a while and want to back up their experience with training. Training at the Initial level will cover key topics such as:
- Beat patterns in a variety of meters
- How to deliver useful, effective and relevant vocal warm ups
- How to teach and lead songs/rounds efficiently
- The conductor as a verbal and visual communicator
The Intermediate level is designed for those who already have experience in leading a choir and may have had some previous training. Training at the Intermediate level will cover key topics such as:
- Body language, kinaesthetics, effective gestures and how to shape sound
- Preparing and planning for a successful rehearsal
- Understanding the voice and getting the best from your choir
- Conductor as verbal, vocal and visual communicator
Attend this event
Initial level training: £180 weekend rate for abcd members or £250 weekend rate for non-members. Day rate: £90 for abcd members or £125 for non-members.
Intermediate level training: £210 weekend rate for abcd members or £290 weekend rate for non-members. Day rate: £105 for abcd members or £145 for non-members.
Observers are welcome to observe Intermediate level training: £35 for members and £45 for non-members.
Bursaries: we have a limited number of bursary places available for young conductors (18 – 28 year olds) and any conductor who works with young singers. Bursary places are £150 for the weekend, or £60 for the day. Contact Elisabeth Brierley at elisabeth.brierley@abcd.org.uk for more information.
