Music and Technology Officer
Play a key role in supporting the musical and technical operations of the National Open Youth Orchestra and support the development of our accessible musical instrument, the Clarion. An exciting opportunity for a skilled and organised individual with a passion for music and technology.
Open Up Music is an organisation with a simple but powerful mission: to open up music to young disabled musicians. We work alongside those young people to tackle musical inequality – inspiring new instruments and new musical forms for the 21st century. We are looking for a Music and Technology Officer to join us at an exciting stage of development.
This academic year, we are providing accessible musical progression opportunities to over 600 of the most marginalised young musicians in the UK. We do this through our award-winning programmes, including Open Orchestras (the largest network of inclusive ensembles in the UK) and the National Open Youth Orchestra (the world’s first disabled-led national youth ensemble). Clarion, our award-winning digital musical instrument designed for accessibility, will also be made commercially available, enabling musicians across the UK to access it.
As Music and Technology Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the musical and technical operations of the National Open Youth Orchestra (NOYO), contributing to its success and impact for young disabled musicians.
Your responsibilities will include managing music resources and equipment, supporting the creation of music resources and arrangements. As well as providing musical and technical guidance to musicians and their families, teachers and Music Leaders, you will support the development of our accessible musical instrument, the Clarion. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and organised individual with a passion for music and technology, who is eager to drive innovation and accessibility within an inclusive music programme.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the heart of who we are. We take our responsibility to acknowledge, challenge and dismantle barriers within music and our organisation extremely seriously. To that end, we are especially interested in receiving applications from Disabled people.
We also recognise that systems of privilege, structural disadvantage and barriers to participation often intersect with one another. For this reason, we particularly welcome applications from people from other structurally disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented groups. This may include people from the Global Majority, migrants, refugees, LGBTQIA+ people and/or people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
