Hub Sounds 2017!
On 24th April 340 young people performed in the Hub’s annual showcase, Hub Sounds. These young people represented 16 different schools, 6 ensembles and 2 colleges. The performances ranged from classical piano solos to disco bands.
For the first time, we were able to welcome on stage performances by two new ensembles from Pencalenick School and Richard Lander ARK. These ensembles used specially adapted technology which enable young people with disabilities to be able to participate in ensemble music making. The students have been worked with music leaders from the Cornwall Music Service Trust since September on a Open School Orchestra project jointly funded by the Hub and Youth Music
Snappy Operas
During the Spring Term, five schools in Cornwall worked with the Mahogany Opera team and local music leader, Shelley Jeffery, on a project to put together a performance of five new mini operas. These ‘Snappy’ operas were all created especially for primary children and were written with input from schools across the county (including Tregadillet from Cornwall!).
Each school has been supported over a number of workshops by specialist music leaders in order to put together a showstopping premiere night. 150 children from St Issey, St Petrocs, St Stephens (Launceston), Tregadillet and Warbstow Schools took part in the project and performed to a sold-out Launceston Town Hall on 29th March.
