Royal Greenwich Music Education Hub Conference: Advocating for Music
The annual Royal Greenwich Music Education Hub Teachers’ Conference was the best attended yet, and was hosted at the brand new Plumcroft School Campus in Woolwich Arsenal.
The programme included a key-note speech by Deborah Annetts, Chief Executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians. Deborah’s theme was advocating for music and she quoted extensively from the recent All-Party Parliamentary Group report ‘Music Education: State of the Nation’ which outlines the broad landscape of music education in England, drilling deep into Government figures regarding the impact of the English Baccalaureate (EBacc), on creative subjects.
There were practical sessions too – as part of the Hub’s singing strategy all delegates took part in Singing with Confidence and there were workshops for music specialists and non-specialists which gave teachers practical skills to take back to the classroom.
A highlight of the conference was the celebration of Music Mark Membership for several Greenwich schools and we were very pleased that Stephanie (pictured) from Music Mark came to present the certificates to our new members.
