As we move towards the end of this academic year, discover our exciting programme of training and events taking place in autumn! With new events to complement our ‘This Is Not A Rehearsal’ environmental campaign and new series’ to promote Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in education as well as the return of popular events such as our High Impact Senior Leadership Course, and of course, our annual conference, the programme has something for everyone!

18th – 19th November 2024 | Music Mark Conference 2024

Music Mark 2024 Annual ConferenceEarly bird tickets for this year’s annual conference are now available! Join us at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham this November for Music Mark’s 2024 annual conference. Learn, share expertise, collaborate, network, and be inspired as we focus on sustainability in music education and explore the actions we should be taking as a sector. From environmental to financial sustainability, and sustainability of workforce and students, this conference will provide insight, inspiration and tangible actions for all those working across the music education ecology.

8th October 2024 | Climate Conversations: Integrating Climate Education into Music & Sustainable Concert Production

Our Climate Conversations provide an opportunity for colleagues in the music education sector to discuss how they are addressing the climate crisis within their work. This session will explore how to integrate climate education into music teaching and the music curriculum and sustainable concert production. Grab a cuppa and join us in a space where you can inspire others, reflect on challenges and build a supportive community to develop a collaborative approach to sustainability in music education.

9th October and 16th October 2024 | Carbon Literacy Training

This informative and interactive Music Education Carbon Literacy Certified training course, exclusive for Music Mark Members, will provide you with an awareness of the climate-related costs and impacts of your individual and organisation’s activities and the ability and motivation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The course will empower you to take climate action and give you the confidence to initiate change within your organisation. It will also give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to act to reduce your carbon emissions to support the UK’s Net Zero target.

5th December 2024 | Climate Conversations: Wellbeing and Climate Anxiety

Join us for our December Climate Conversations session on wellbeing and climate anxiety, where we will be discussing how to cope with climate anxiety and the challenges this can create.


Leading

Training and events for those in leadership or managerial roles

26th September 2024 – 13th March 2024 | High Impact Senior Leadership

Formerly known as Six Dimensions of Leadership, this revised development programme is explicitly designed for Heads of Service and Senior Leaders in Music Hubs. The course helps develop leadership skills, thinking and practices, allowing organisations to foster ‘followship’ principles and ensure good succession planning for solid and expanding futures.

As an added bonus to the course, Music Mark members who sign up will be assigned a mentor to provide x4 fully subsidised 1 hour mentoring sessions to complement the course.

Join The Leadership Collective as they explain how can we succeed in attaining a healthy work-life balance.

10th October 2024 | The Leadership Collective: Striking a Balance

When it seems like there are not enough hours in the day, how can we succeed in attaining a healthy work-life balance? This workshop helps to bring ‘life’ back into work! We will explore the range of factors that promote greater workplace satisfaction, focus and efficacy, together with developing healthy habits for striking your own balance and prioritising time for rest, play and feeding your joy.

This is an interactive workshop relevant to people in all stages of their career, especially those with leadership responsibilities. Participants will engage in exercises which support them to reflect on where they allocate their time, energy and attention; develop a critical awareness of invisible labour; set sustainable boundaries, and implement effective ways of managing the increasingly blurring lines between work and personal lives.

Teaching in Secondary Schools with The Creative Educator

Keep an eye out for the upcoming launch of a series focused on teaching in secondary schools, delivered by Jenetta Hurst, The Creative Educator. Session themes will include:

  • September 2024 | Nuts and bolts of Behaviour in a music room
  • November/December 2024 | Following the National Plan for Music in different settings
  • March/April 2025 | How to advocate for music as a subject
  • May/June 2025 | Ensuring you start the new academic year with diversity embedded in your music teaching

Peer Groups, Mentoring & Coaching

Available free of charge and exclusively to Music Mark Members, our year-round offer of professional development opportunities includes peer groups, mentoring and coaching. Peer Groups provide spaces for colleagues with similar roles across the UK to engage with peer-to-peer learning and collaborative problem-solving. You can also take advantage of working with our trained mentors and professional coaches to support your professional development and help you achieve your goals.
