Exciting New Assessment Opportunities for Clarion Players at ABRSM!
18th February 2025

ABRSM are thrilled to announce that a new Open Music Assessment is now available to Clarion players. This marks a significant milestone as it becomes ABRSM’s first-ever assessment for a fully accessible digital instrument.
About the Clarion®
Developed by the charity Open Up Music, the Clarion is a revolutionary musical instrument that combines expressive capabilities with high accessibility. Already embraced by thousands of disabled musicians across the UK, it is widely used by players in the National Open Youth Orchestra (NOYO) and Open Orchestras.
What is ABRSM’s Open Music Assessment?
The Open Music Assessment provides musicians of all levels with the opportunity to have their playing or singing evaluated by one of ABRSM’s experienced examiners in a supportive, face-to-face setting. For years, this flexible alternative to graded exams has helped musicians celebrate their progress and gain valuable feedback.
Participants can select their own repertoire and even engage in a brief discussion with the examiner before their performance to express their goals for the session. The assessment has no pass or fail criteria; instead, performers receive a certificate with constructive feedback from the examiner, offering a motivating and confidence-boosting experience.
Assessments play a key role in inspiring musicians and encouraging ongoing development. With the invaluable support of Open Up Music, ABRSM are delighted to extend this opportunity to Clarion players at Private Visits across the UK.
