Guide Music Mark’s future by joining our Board of Trustees

13th September 2024

Music Mark is seeking two Members to be elected to positions on our Board of Trustees, as well as two co-opted positions. The roles will formally start after our Annual General Meeting on the 7th November 2024. Read on to find out more about what being a Music Mark Trustee involves and how to apply!

The Board of Trustees plays a key role in developing the strategic direction of Music Mark and is responsible for the financial health of the organisation. To ensure the most effective governance of the Charity, the Board needs people with a broad range of skills, knowledge and life experiences. We welcome applications from individuals who could help us to expand the range of expertise on our board. We are committed to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and the Board would welcome applications from individuals from under-represented communities and backgrounds.

What does being a Trustee involve?

The Board of Trustees meets approximately five times per year, usually for three-hour meetings (including breaks). Most meetings are held online but Trustees also meet in person at least once per year. Trustees will usually be able to attend in-person meetings virtually if they are unable to attend in person. Music Mark will provide catering for all in-person meetings, and documents to be read will be shared with you in advance of each meeting. From time to time, Trustees will be asked to volunteer to work on specific projects alongside fellow Trustees and the Music Mark staff team.

What will I gain from being a Trustee?

Being a Trustee is a great way to give something back to your membership association but it can also bring you new skills, confidence and connections to develop your career. The Board of Trustees welcomes vibrant, respectful debate, and will ensure that you can express your view and challenge the view of others. We’re also happy to discuss any training needs you may have to fulfil your role as a Trustee.

Earlier this year, three members of the Music Mark staff team shared their experiences volunteering as board and committee members – read the blog to find out what they’ve gained from their roles. Chris, our Membership & Operations Director, said:

“I am so happy to be able to give my time to make a difference in the lives of young people and their families in my local community… Joining a board is a great way to meet like-minded people and I am very grateful for the relationships this role has made possible.”

Who can apply to join the Board of Trustees?

We’re currently running two application processes for Trustee positions, with two elected positions available and one co-opted position. All individual and organisational Music Mark Members are eligible to apply for the elected Trustee roles, as well as paying School Members. Please note that Industry Partners and Music Mark Schools are not eligible for these positions. Click here to find out more about the eligibility criteria for elected Trustee positions and how to apply.

The co-opted Trustee positions are open to all, including those from outside the membership. Our co-opted roles allow us to bring passionate, talented and motivated individuals from a wide range of backgrounds to help diversify the voices on our board and support its work. Find out more about the roles and how to apply here.

We look forward to receiving your application by the 7th October. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@musicmark.org.uk
