Music Mark’s Highlights – 10 Years In
19th March 2024
As we celebrate our 10th birthday, we wanted to share some of Music Mark’s highlights and successes from the past 10 years. From exciting partnerships to government advocacy, we are here to support, connect, and influence on behalf of the music education sector.
Advocacy
In 2019, the Department of Education (DfE) announced an additional £1.33 million for Music Education Hubs following months of conversations and meetings between the Department of Education (DfE) and The UK Association of Music Education – Music Mark, which lobbied on behalf of its members to secure the much needed support. You can read more about our involvement in this success here.
Since 2018, we have written numerous letters to ministers within the Department for Education advocating for music education:
Through this advocacy, we have secured additional increased funding and support for the music education sector on multiple occasions. Click the circles below to find out more!
Supporting Members
Much of our work over the past 10 years has involved supporting and connecting those working in the music education sector. In our 2023 Annual Survey, we asked you how we were doing. Hover over the bubbles below to find out more about our top 5 areas of work according to you.
Music Mark has also formed numerous partnerships and collaborations with organisations over the past decade to support both our own work and the work of our members.
The last 10 years have allowed Music Mark to develop our reach and impact, so we can share important news and exciting training and events to more people working in music education.
In 2020, we removed the cost of Music Mark Schools for Music Services and Hub Lead Organisations despite an increased package of support for classroom teachers. Our Music Mark Schools programme celebrates schools that are committed to providing high-quality music education and provides them with access to our member benefits.
We have also developed new campaigns and championed the involvement of our members to instigate change within the music education sector. We launched Talk into Action in 2021 to support organisations in the music education sector to achieve their Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) goals, inviting them to sign the Talk into Action pledge.
In the past year, we have made several updates to our website to improve the user experience, making it quicker and easier to find what you’re looking for!
Current members can log in to the Members Area here and explore all of the benefits in your welcome pack. If you’re interested in becoming a member, click here to find out more and join a national network of leaders in music education!
