No big changes in DfE’s ministerial line-up as Nick Gibb is retained

13th May 2015

Most teachers know the pattern by now: another election, another government, another new set of ministers, another round of new education initiatives and ministerial dictats.

But not, apparently, this time. The ministerial line-up at the Department for Education will remain more or less exactly as it was before the election, it was revealed today.

The only change will be the absence of ousted Liberal Democrat David Laws, erstwhile minister for schools.

As announced on Saturday, Nicky Morgan will remain education secretary, the position she was appointed to in July last year, replacing Michael Gove.

Nick Gibb (pictured above) retains his position as minister for school reform. Mr Gibb, best known for his passionate support for phonics, was dropped from his ministerial role in 2012, before being brought back by Prime Minister David Cameron last year.

Edward Timpson will remain minister for children and families, and Sam Gyimah the minister for childcare and education. On hearing the news, Mr Gyimah tweeted that he was “delighted” with his reappointment.
