11th November 2022
More than 3,000 young people will perform at the Royal Albert Hall on 15th & 16th November when Music For Youth hosts its biggest live Prom since the pandemic.
As the UK’s national youth music charity, MFY has been staging annual festivals for more than 50 years, giving young people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to develop and showcase their talent.
Returning to two evenings of live shows, the 2022 Prom showcases symphony orchestras, ensembles, and choirs, alongside some of the best young jazz bands, chamber groups, contemporary artists, and songwriters. There will be improvising, creativity, covers, new commissions and original songs.
Phil Castang, Chief Executive of Music for Youth, said: “We are delighted to be back at the Royal Albert Hall to celebrate what has been for many young musicians a ‘comeback’ year.
We will be launching a new campaign championing the brilliance of young musicians and calling on the public to see young musicians playing live wherever and whenever possible; ‘Young People Make Great Music: Support the Next Generation’ “.
A group of young refugee music students from Ukraine who are safely continuing their studies at the London Performing Academy of Music will be performing two special contrasting pieces. The Youth Music Award winner will also be performing and there will be a guest appearance from young composer and presenter, Jack Pepper.
A specially commissioned creative ensemble will feature an original piece ‘Back Together’ by celebrated musical Director and Composer Michael Henry and MFY mentor, Adey Grummet in this not to be missed special premiere performance.
The Proms are accessible to all levels of music education and instrumentation, with everyone from vocalists, choirs, string groups, wind bands, youth orchestras, jazz bands, musical theatre groups and percussion groups taking part.
Music group leader Janice Armstrong, said: “This is a huge honour for our band and a tribute to the hours of practice students have put in. They have worked incredibly hard together.”
Music For Youth’s vision is for every young person in the UK to have the opportunity to achieve their full potential through performing the music they love. The charity works with 40,000 young people every year.
