Beatboxing Basics

Added to website 20/11/2024.

Beatbox Basics is a free 6-part resource from Leicestershire Music, created by local Beatboxer Mr Shay. Covering different beatbox sounds, tips and tricks, Beatbox Basics will provide an exciting introduction into the cutting-edge world of Beatbox, where the only limit is your imagination.

This resource has proven very popular in Leicester and Leicestershire with students learning how to combine kick drum, snare drum and hi hat sounds to perform beatbox rhythms and patterns. Throughout the 6-part series, Beatbox notation is used to equip students to sightread rhythms and beats, and compose their own. Beatboxing is a fun and accessible art form which all young people can learn regardless of socio-economic backgrounds, experience levels and abilities.

Beatbox Basics is ideal for specialists and non-specialists alike, with no prior musical background needed, teachers can pick this resource up and immediately run with it in their schools. Beatbox Basics covers curricular music teaching opportunities such as pitch, rhythm, timbre, pulse, notation and much more.
