ABRSM’s Making Music is a longitudinal series of reports tracking trends in music education over the last three decades. It provides the music education sector with data we can all use to promote the value and importance of music and insight into the needs of teachers and learners.

We have reviewed academic studies, and consulted our Members, the Music Teachers’ Association, the Music Industries Association, the Incorporated Society of Musicians and the Musicians’ Union, as well as individual sector experts, headteachers and teachers.

Music Mark’s 2019 Conference took place in Cutlers’ Hall, Sheffield exploring the theme, ‘Play the Bigger Game’.
Launched in July 2018 as part of AccessHE Week 2018, the AccessHE Creative HE Apply Guide offers information and support for learners interested in applying to creative HE courses who are otherwise discouraged from pursuing their passions for the Creative Arts.
Led by RNCM tutor Mark Heron, this course provides participants with hands-on practical experience in a variety of genres. Thanks to partnerships with the Hallé Youth Orchestra and Derby and Derbyshire Music Partnership, the practical work takes place in front of young musicians of the same age group as they encounter in their work.
