Susan Hallam and Evangelos Himonides, authors of The Power of Music: An Exploration of the Evidence, present their research on evidence based approaches to the power of music. The authors have extensively reviewed evidence from neuroscience, psychology, sociology, education, music and health, and conclude that engagement through listening to or making music can have positive or negative consequences. Their research makes it clear that for the benefits of engaging with music to be realised, musical experiences must be of high quality which has important implications for all of us working in music education.
Susan Hallam is Professor of Education and Music Psychology at the Institute of Education and Evangelos Himonides is Professor of Technology, Education, and Music at University College London.
