The UpRising Resource Balloon

An ‘all thriller, no filler’ bank of resources for all those who want to better engage young people with additional learning needs in music-making.
The UpRising resource balloon was created in response to requests from instrumental tutors and classroom teachers, with a focus on areas of practice that aren’t well supported elsewhere.
It covers working with pupils with complex needs (PMLD), inclusive ensembles, engaging pupils with specific needs, an exploration of the lived experience of Disabled educators, and special school curriculum development.
All of the resources were created as part of Music Education Hub East Midlands’ UpRising project. They are grounded in the Social Model of Disability: the imperative to build all aspects of the musical experience around the needs, interests and abilities of individual learners. We hope you find them useful.
